Longtail Legend: McLaren F1 GTR Longtail #27RRyan
No car from the 1990s has become more iconic or endured as strongly in the hearts of enthusiasts than the world-changing McLaren F1.
Only 106 examples of the era-defining supercar were ever produced, and of these, the rarest variant by far is the radical F1 GTR Longtail racing version.
Only ten of these were produced in 1997 to meet the challenge of purpose-built GT1 competitors from Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, and of these perhaps none are more important than chassis 27R. This was the first GTR Longtail to win a race, claiming victory at the 1997 British GT Championship race at Silverstone before strong showings at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the Nurburgring later that year. Now, over 20 years after chassis 27R delivered the first victory for the F1 GTR Longtail, this iconic machine returns to the track in its stunning original Parabolica livery and will be on display Thursday, May 30 with fire ups Friday, May 31 and runs on Saturday and Sunday at the Sonoma Speed Festival.
As an added highlight, the F1 GTR Longtail will be followed by the bleeding-edge modern McLaren P1 hypercar, a direct descendant of the McLaren F1’s legacy.
Alongside the action on track, the Sonoma Speed Festival will also feature attractions and entertainment for enthusiasts of all stripes, including the gourmet Sip & Savor Pavilion. This world-class blend of fine wines and spirits with high-quality chef demonstrations will feature wines from throughout California wine country, including a curated selection of vintages from Ram’s Gate Winery. Ram’s Gate specializes in beautifully crafted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietals, blending harvests from throughout Northern California to expertly highlight the region’s signature terroir.
Ten iconic Race Groups spanning from the Brass Era to cutting-edge modern racing machines will take on the challenging hills of Sonoma Raceway in the heart of California wine country from May 31st to June 2nd in addition to the aforementioned gourmet food and fine wine being served, and interactive automotive displays.
