Esteban Gutiérrez to Drive the F1 W07/04 Hybrid at the Inaugural Sonoma Speed FestivalPeter
The Sonoma Speed Festival announced today that Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport test driver Esteban Gutiérrez will appear as the official driver for the team’s demonstration laps with its 2016 F1 W07/04 Hybrid, the most successful single chassis in Formula 1 history. Gutiérrez brings extensive open-wheel racing experience to the event, including three full seasons as a Formula 1 race driver in 2013, 2014 and 2016.
Gutiérrez has been an official test driver for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsports since 2018 and has been involved in Formula 1 since 2011, racing in a total of 59 Grands Prix between 2013 and 2016 and operating as a test driver for several top teams.
The vehicle Gutiérrez will drive, Mercedes F1 W07 chassis number 04, holds the distinction of being the most successful individual chassis in the history of Formula 1. W07/04 was driven by Lewis Hamilton to 10 wins, nine poles and 14 podiums in 2016 including victories in Monaco, Montreal, Silverstone, Germany and back-to-back victories (and pole positions) in Austin, Mexico, Interlagos and Abu Dhabi.
Away from the demands of a race weekend in a much more relaxed and less restrictive environment, this is a truly unique opportunity to experience car, driver and team up close and on track.
“The Sonoma Speed Festival is proud to welcome Esteban Gutiérrez to take the wheel in this historic demonstration,” said Ryan R. Turri, General Manager of the Sonoma Speed Festival. “With his depth of Formula 1 experience and incredible talent, we’re confident he will put on a show that will make our inaugural celebration an event to remember.”
“I’m excited to be driving W07, especially at Sonoma, which is such an iconic track,” said Esteban Gutiérrez, Simulator and Development driver for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsports. “I’ve been fortunate enough to drive W07 once before, so it won’t be a completely new experience, but it does mean I know it’s going to be really good fun and will definitely be an incredible feeling. I’ll do my best to put on a show for all the fans, they’re really passionate about motorsport in the US. So, it’s going to be an exciting event.”
Outside of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsports’ demonstration, the Sonoma Speed Festival will feature wheel-to-wheel racing with race groups spanning the history of motorsports from the Brass Era to the modern age competing on track, interactive displays for both casual and hardcore enthusiasts, and a luxurious Sip & Savor Pavilion featuring some of the world’s finest food and wine pairings. Vintage Dragsters will close out Friday’s qualifying day with a Trackside VIP Reception sponsored by Adobe Road Winery’s Racing Series with a final run Saturday.
