The Sonoma Speed Festival Welcomes the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport Teamelysedev
The Sonoma Speed Festival is Proud to be featuring the World Championship Winning Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport F1 Team at the inaugural event this year with Lewis Hamilton’s 2016 car. Motorsport fans are in for a truly unique experience with car and members of the current Formula 1 team.
Arriving straight from their races in Monaco, the team will be bringing Lewis Hamilton’s 10 race winning W07 Hybrid to demonstrate on track and in the paddock for fans to see and hear. One of only a few ever made for the 2016 season, this exact chassis, number 4, was driven by Lewis Hamilton to victory 10 times and took 9 poles and 14 podiums, including victories in Monaco, Montreal, Silverstone, Germany and back-to-back victories (and pole positions) in Austin, Mexico, Interlagos and Abu Dhabi.
The W07/04 as it’s known is the most successful individual chassis in the history of Formula 1, and the success of the W07 Hybrid in Grand Prix competition speaks for itself. In 2016, teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg took 19 out of 21 victories, 20 pole positions, nine fastest race laps, eight 1-2 finishes, and a record-breaking 33 podiums.
The W07 Hybrid also holds the record for the most championship points in a single season with 765 points.
Requiring current team members to run the car, the extraordinary effort to bring personnel and driver to the Sonoma Speed Festival is part of what makes this year’s event both historic and unique. A fan-friendly paddock will provide viewing access to the W07/04 with the opportunity to interact with members of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport team.
Chief Mechanic and Head of Heritage at Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, Matt Deane will be running the team, and looks forward to the visit:
‘We are delighted to be involved in the inaugural Sonoma Speed Festival. We look forward to meeting and spending time with both existing and new American Formula 1 fans and to running on the track in California for the first time with the Mercedes-Benz W07 Hybrid.’
Sonoma Speed Festival event owner, Jeff O’Neill looks forward to the team’s arrival this summer, and will be making a driver announcement in the coming weeks:
‘To have Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport running at the event is far beyond just ‘terrific’. The team’s participation in this form will be a first in the US and promises to be a memorable historic moment on American turf. Check the date – this really is not to be missed.’
